Next door to the ASB Classic
The ASB Classic is challenged with finding more room and more flexibility in how it uses its current space in the Auckland Domain. As tournament standards continue to evolve, the ATP and WTA Tours are asking for more space for player preparation, practice courts and the facilities needed to support the tournament.

A building with a past
We were fortunate to have 70 Stanley Street right at our doorstep. The 1,500 sqm indoor facility had once been home to the old University of Auckland gym and became vacant after the Uni built its new sports and recreation centre. With the space sitting empty we were able to make use of it during the 2026 ASB Classic.

Seeing the opportunity
Feedback from both the ATP and WTA showed that having access to the facility made a big difference for players and helped the tournament run more smoothly. That made it clear to us how important it was to secure the space for future ASB Classic tournaments.
The ASB Classic only needs the space for four weeks a year so we had to decide what to do with it for the other eleven months. Pickleball was a natural fit as a growing and accessible racquet sport while golf sims gave us another way to attract people to the venue. Together they allow the space to earn its keep while ensuring it remains available for future ASB Classic tournaments.
A modern clubhouse
for Auckland
We asked ourselves a simple question: What if this space could become a destination people genuinely wanted to spend time in? Not just somewhere to play. Somewhere to meet. To compete. To socialise. To celebrate. A place where sport and entertainment could sit side by side. That idea became the foundation for Stanley Street Clubhouse.
